If you experience any of these eye problems included below — or other concerning eye problems — come see our team at Visions Optique and Eyecare right away.

LOSS OF VISION

Vision loss — both gradual and sudden — can be caused by a myriad of reasons. Either way, vision loss can be scary. If your vision doesn’t return to normal or lasts for longer than a few seconds, you need to visit your ophthalmologist to rule out any conditions or potential eye problems or damage.

If you have lost your vision for any reason, get into Dr. Uelner and Dr. Campouris as soon as possible. Same-day emergency eyecare appointments are available so Dr. Uelner and Dr. Campouris can figure out what condition or problem is responsible for your vision loss.

FLASHES OR FLOATERS

If you see flashing lights or lightning streaks in your eye, that could be a sign that something is wrong. Flashes can happen for different reasons, like staring at the sun or a lightbulb for too long and burning the image on your retina.

But if these flashers bother you, don’t have an explainable cause, or are accompanied with other symptoms, have your ophthalmologist check out your eyes immediately.

On the other hand, floaters can look like small clouds or specks that move across your field of vision. They can make different shapes and behave like they are floating around in your eye (because they are). If you suddenly develop new floaters in your eyes, make an emergency eyecare appointment with Dr. Uelner and Dr. Campouris!

PINK EYE

Pink eye — an inflammation or infection of your eye that makes it look pink — can spread easily, especially among children. But, with antibiotics, pink eye is also easy to treat.

If you notice that you have symptoms of pink eye, schedule an appointment with your ophthalmologist immediately. Symptoms can include:

  • Eye pain
  • Redness and irritation of eye and eyelid
  • Discharge
  • Dry and itchy eyes
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Swollen or watery eyes

When you meet with your ophthalmologist, they will get you started on antibiotics to help treat your inflammation and prevent spreading pink eye to other people.

SCRATCHED CORNEA

A scratched cornea is a common injury but can cause your eyes to feel irritated and burn. Some corneas can heal on their own, but antibiotic ointments and steroids can help reduce pain, speed up recovery, and treat severely scratched corneas.

If you have a scratched cornea, give Visions Optique and Eyecare a call to schedule an emergency eyecare appointment!

EYE DEBRIS, IRRITATION, PAIN, OR ITCHINESS

If your eyes are red or you feel like you have something foreign in them, that’s your eye’s way of indicating that something is wrong. First, you can try rinsing your eye with water or wiping it away with a towel or piece of cotton. If you are unable to easily remove the object, or the irritation or redness does not go away, that’s a sign that you need to visit your ophthalmologist.

If you are experiencing severe pain or have other injuries in addition to your eye pain, call your local emergency service immediately. Otherwise, contact Dr. Uelner and Dr. Campouris’s team as soon as possible for a same- or next-day appointment to take care of your irritation.

CONTACT LENS ISSUE

If you cannot remove a contact lens or have a torn contact that is stuck in your eye, then it’s time to get over to your ophthalmologist! Additionally, if you’re having trouble putting your contacts in due to an eye irritation that won’t go away, it’s a good idea to have your eyes checked by your eye doctor.

If you cannot safely extract your contact lens, call Dr. Uelner and Dr. Campouris’s team to schedule an emergency eyecare appointment right away!

ALLERGIES

If you are experiencing a severe allergic reaction in your eye that is not going away or consistent seasonal allergies that won’t clear up with allergy medicine, you can ask your ophthalmologist about possible treatments and remedies.

Before you try new eye drops or treatments, make sure you discuss those options with Dr. Uelner and Dr. Campouris and our team to find the best option for your eyes!
