There is no treatment for the dry form, but training and special devices can promote independence and a return to favorite activities.

In short, no. There are many factors that must be considered to be a candidate for any type of surgery, including laser. If this type of surgery is desired the doctor will discuss the pros’ and con’s with you in regard to your particular lifestyle.

Q: WHAT CAUSES CATARACTS?

Cataract formation is an age-related vision problem. Most often the development of a cataract is accelerated by UV light exposure (ie: not wearing sunglasses when outside). Smoking also increases the development cataracts. Your doctor will examine this condition and consult you on the options if a cataract is detected.

Q: HOW CAN I PREVENT MY VISION FROM GETTING WORSE?

Changes in vision are a natural part of aging. There is no magic “cure” to stop or reverse poor vision. There are solutions that can correct for poor vision such as, glasses, contacts, and surgery. Wearing glasses and contacts are the most common tools to correct for poor vision and make seeing more comfortable.

Q: WILL MY EYES GET WORSE BY WEARING MY GLASSES TOO MUCH?

The doctor will explain the uses and functions of the prescription that will be given to you. Wearing glasses won’t cause your eyes to deteriorate. However, wearing reading glasses for distance viewing for example would cause blurred vision. There are many types of glasses and uses for glasses, the optician will take time and explain the best choices for your individual needs.
